Twin Cities Marathon set to begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m

The Twin Cities Marathon is set to begin Sunday morning at 7 a.m., with the annual event expected to draw its usual massive crowd of several thousand runners seeking the victory.

The course is one of the most scenic in the country, according to onlykent.com, winding along lakes, rivers and trees during one of the more beautiful seasons of the year. Autumn is dawning as the race is expected to begin, providing the perfect colorful backdrop.

And the expected attendance reflects that scenic beauty. More than 300,000 people are expected to line the streets to view the marathon, according to the same report, and the story encourages anyone who can to take advantage of public transportation due to the throngs of people and tremendous crowds sure to pack the downtown area, which will make driving and parking a nightmare.

Recent heavy rains raised something of a concern in the area, especially along the winding course that fronts water at several locations, but the same story says flooding is not expected to cause a problem. The race is slated to begin at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome and finish at the State Capitol building in St. Paul.
