Brandon Tate to Step Up for Patriots?

Brandon Tate will be the deep threat for the Pats,” NFL Network analyst and former NFL GM Mike Lombardi tweeted. “He is really an explosive talented player who will become a major contributor now.”

New England is suddenly lacking a big play receiver after they shockingly traded Moss back to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a third-round pick in 2011 this morning. They have plenty of speed (Wes Welker and Danny Woodhead) and size (Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski), but are now without a player who possesses both traits in spades like Moss, a 7-time Pro Bowler, did.
The 6-foot, 210-pound Tate is the closest thing the Patriots have to a player like Moss. The 23-year-old’s skills have focused on special teams up until this point, as he has already returned two kickoffs for touchdowns in 2010, Although he ran the second half kickoff back 103 yard in New England’s 41-14 bashing of the Miami Dolphins on Monday night, Tate also lead the team with 4 receptions for 39 yards in a first half where Moss did not record a single catch.
New England drafted Tate out of North Carolina in the third-round of the 2009 draft. He has 11 catches (2 more than Moss) and 135 yards so far this year.
