Cecilia Chang St Johns Students SCANDAL – Cecilia Chang is accused of forcing scholarship students to work for her illegally. She is also accused of being a fundraiser embezzler. The federal charges that were filed against her allege that she threatened to take the scholarships away from the students and to revoke their funds if they did not agree to take out her garbage and shovel the snow out of her driveway.
The FBI is currently investigating Chang. They have been interviewing a number of unnamed students, many of whom were from overseas, that were awarded scholarships of $5,000 or more per semester by Change. It is not clear if the students had received the money because they had agreed to work, or if the working was something that was suggested after they had already been awarded a scholarship.
An email that was sent by one student who was afraid of losing their funding claimed that change had three student housekeepers that worked as much as 122 days per year.
The forced labor complaint is one that will tarnish the reputation of the former Dean of the college. She could face up to 20 years in prison if she is convicted of the charges. She has already been arrested on charges that she embezzled $1 million, including a $250,000 donation from the Saudi Prince’s foundation. They are very serious charges that allege deep corruption within the University.
