SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE -- Better late than never was the sentiment of many air show goers Saturday afternoon as they had to wait later than usual for the grand finale.
The Blue Angels remained grounded while a flat tire kept an A-10 Thunderbolt "Warthog" on the runway for several minutes, but thousands remained standing and sitting at Scott Air Force Base for the Airpower Over the Midwest Air Show's final act of the afternoon.
Finally, the Blue Angels Navy and Marine Corps precision flying team took flight more than 90 minutes later expected. The six blue and yellow-trimmed jets raced across the sky in a a number of formations. Four of the F/A-18 Hornets flew in a diamond-shaped formations, including one where each plane traveled with each plane's wings about 18 inches from each other. The jets tore through the blue sky at various altitudes performing twists, turns and loops.
